L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara

When bemoaning my lack of decent mascaras on twitter Catriona insisted that I try this. It’s one of those products that I’ve heard mentioned a thousand times on youtube but never quite got around to trying myself. I’m rather pleased I did as this is a rather lovely looking high street mascara. Cue speediest mascara review ever...

The wand is spot on for me. It’s densely bristled and not too large (ooh er). It picks up enough product to really coat the lashes and builds up volume very quickly. It does provide a little length, not a drastic amount but some. It is ok at holding a curl too, not perfect but it does a decent enough job for several hours. So it’s a good all rounder really!

The colour is very, very black indeed. As you would expect from the name. There is just one thing. I live in Glasgow. I would describe our climate as... dreich. For those not in the know dreich is a Scots word for damp, cold, miserable conditions. As soon as there is a hint of moisture in the air, as there usually is here, this starts to crumble and flake on me. If I’m sat in a warm dry office all is well but if I have to go outside or my eyes are the least bit watery then I end up with black flecks of mascara all over the tops of my cheeks.

So I’m torn. I love how it looks. It’s thick and full without being clumpy. I just hate that as soon as I stick my head outside I have to start checking for rogue flakes. So the search for the perfect high street mascara continues...
